Dam tot Dam Weekend: Corona update

The scenario feared by all of us has become a reality; this summer, no events will be organised in the Netherlands until 1 September. Shortly after this date, there will be four major events on the Le Champion calendar in the weekend of 19 and 20 September: the Dam tot Dam Wandeltocht, Damloop by night, Dam tot Dam FietsClassic and Dam tot Damloop. Normally the largest sportive weekend in the Netherlands with 83.000 participants.

It is understandable that there will be many questions about whether or not the Dam tot Dam Weekend will take place this year. For the time being, we plan to hold the event. But, we are aware that some adaptations will have to be made. Together with our partners and all relevant authorities we are currently doing all we can to find creative solutions so that the Dam tot Dam Weekend can take place in a safe and responsible manner. We will look at all aspects of the event, from transport to support along the course, and from the starting arrangements to the distribution of the participants. We may have to hold the event with fewer participants. We will let you know as soon as possible once we have looked at the various options more closely.

After this summer, we would love nothing more than to let you, as a cyclist, runner of walker, take part in one of the beloved Dam tot Dam events. Our ‘raison d’etre’ at Le Champion is to inspire people to exercise and take part in sport. And it is currently more important than ever for our message to get through. We have to abide by the government’s measures and advice, however, and will monitor this situation very closely. There is a chance that the ban on events will be extended past 1 September but, for the moment, the Dam tot Dam Weekend will go ahead in September.

For any questions about registrations as individual participant, business team, charity or club card holder please refer the Q&A below. If your question is not listed, please contact us using this link.

Q: Can I register for the Dam tot Dam events?
A. Yes, registration for all elements of the Dam tot Dam events is now open.

Q: When will you decide whether the Dam tot Dam events will go ahead?
A. Once we have examined all of the possible scenarios, we will make a final decision on the measures that we have to take in order to hold the event in a safe and responsible manner. We are also aware that the current government ban on events may be extended past 1 September. In this case, the Dam tot Dam events will have to be cancelled.

Q: If the Dam tot Damloop and Damloop by night are cancelled, will individual participants have their registration fees refunded?
A. Members of Le Champion may cancel their registrations and any extras until 11 August 2020. Non-members can unfortunately not cancel their registrations. If the ban on sporting events is extended, we will have to discuss how to proceed with the situation. Once we know more, we will notify all of those involved.

A. Club card holders (charities with a three-year commitment to Le Champion) who have registered for the Dam tot Damloop and/or Damloop by night can cancel their registration.
